2010 – Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program (NVTRP) is celebrating 30 years of service in our community. Our Community Legends Awards recognize heroes that have made a significant contribution to therapeutic riding or have had a profound impact on the lives of children and adults living with disabilities.
Barbara Ford has supported the nonprofit industry for over 30 years. She is a graduate of the Cheff Center for the Handicapped in Michigan in 1986 and is a registered instructor for the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH, Intl.). Barb has served on the PATH, Intl. Center Advancement Committee, was the Region 3 Representative for the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association (EFMHA), and is a Board Member of the Therapeutic Riding Association of Virginia (TRAV).
Barb founded the EQUI-KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program in 1989. As Executive Director, she helped the program grow from 1 pony and 6 kids to 15 equines and 70-80 riders weekly. Thanks to her $5 million capital campaign, Barbara was able to move EQUI-KIDS into a new facility in 2009 and begin building an indoor riding arena in 2010. She is currently the owner of Forward Motion Farm LLC, and founder of Untamed Spirit Therapeutic and Educational Program.
Barb is the proud mother of twin daughters, who are currently sophomores at Northern Arizona University and Regen University.
Congratulations to Barbara, one of NVTRP’s Community Legends who will be honored at our 30th Anniversary Jubilee on Peachy Keen Day, Sunday, September 19th, 2010!
